Weekly spelling practice sheet
Spelling sticks through routine, not lists read once. This sheet runs the week: choose eight to ten words on Monday, one short routine each day, and a Friday self-test that decides which words carry over to next week.
Monday: choose and chunk
- Write this week's 8-10 words (from school list or writing mistakes)
- Spot the pattern: word family, prefix, suffix or silent letter
- Say each word and clap the syllables
Tuesday to Thursday: the daily minute
- Look at the word, cover it, write it from memory, check (twice per word)
- Rainbow write the tricky letters in colour
- Use three of the words in one sentence each
- Speed round: all words in under two minutes
Friday: test and carry over
- Self-test: parent dictates, child writes, mark together
- Words correct: tick and retire them
- Words wrong: copy three times and move to next week's list
Tutor tip: Words that come back two Fridays in a row are the ones that need a different approach: break them into syllables, find the etymology, or ask a tutor to test which underlying rule is missing.
